What is the route to Plaza de Mulas like?
Day 1: The trek begins at Horcones, at 2,950 meters above sea level, entering the park through the main access point. The trail follows the Upper Horcones River, gradually gaining altitude until reaching the first camp at Confluencia, located at 3,300 meters.
Day 2: The route continues to Plaza Francia, offering direct views of Aconcagua’s South Face, one of the highest mountain walls in the world. Afterward, the trek returns to Confluencia Camp.
Day 3: The trek to Plaza de Mulas begins, departing from Confluencia and passing through Playa Ancha. This is a long day, taking approximately 8 hours of hiking.
Day 4: Already at Plaza de Mulas, this day is dedicated to a trekking tour around the Plaza de Mulas area for acclimatization and exploration.
Day 5: An ascent of Mount Bonete, located directly in front of Plaza de Mulas, is carried out. The peak reaches 5,050 meters above sea level, followed by a return to Plaza de Mulas Base Camp.
Day 6: The descent back to Confluencia Camp takes place, where the night is spent resting before continuing the return journey the following day.
Day 7: From Confluencia, the trek continues back to Horcones, followed by the return transfer to the city of Mendoza, concluding the Aconcagua Trekking Tour.
